226  Class of 1958 / Hoyt Burrows / Bio on: November 23, 2008, 05:33:20 PM
Wife:  Sandra (DeYoung, 1958 Graduate of CGHS)

Hoyt is the Director at a local food bank.  Sandra volunteers for Hoyt, makes quilts for Children?s Hospital and the Linus Project.  They both enjoy their daughter, Kelly and son-in-law, Craig and their 17-year-old granddaughter, Alyssa.  Hoyt bought a 1951 MGTD and they joined two car clubs.

Dean lived in Alaska until 1994 when he retired and moved back to Oregon.  He and Jan have 4 children and 11 grandchildren.  Dean enjoys working in the garden, woodworking, and building birdhouses.

Barbara and Don have a timber business and belong to a car club.  They enjoy traveling and walking on their place.  They have a daughter and 3 grandchildren?the oldest is a teacher, the middle one works in Eugene and the youngest is in college in Idaho.

Husband:  Virg

Beverly and Virg are both retired.  Virg was a head Saw Filer and Beverly was a Teacher for Head Start for over 25 years in Canby, Molalla, and Madras.  They have been in Central Oregon for eighteen years, love it there and have no plans to leave at the moment.

They have 5 children, 9 grandchildren, 2 step-grandchildren and 3 foster grandchildren.  They are dispersed from Hawaii to Oregon and Washington.  ?Life is GOOD.?

Keith was owner of Wilson Appliance in Cottage Grove, Sales, Manager for Shrader, Frontier and Silent Flame wood stoves, Sales Manager for Long Manufacturing covering 11 western states, Superintendent and Project Manager for 2 hangers for SAC widening, lighting of runway, radar facility and missile silos in Shemya, Alaska, a partner in Nursery Outlet and retired in 1988.  He was a past president of the Cottage Grove Jaycees, past vice president of the State of Oregon Jaycees, and past president of the Cottage Grove Chamber of Commerce.

Keith and Janie love sports, traveling and being with their kids and their families.  All four kids live in four different states?none in Oregon.  Ben and Rie live in Salt Lake City, Utah.  Ben commutes to LA filming commercials and videos.  Rie has a casting company.  Jack, 7, loves gymnastics and T-ball.  Ben also teaches skiing during the season at Park City.

Lynda and Mike are in Gig Harbor, WA.  Mike is vice president of Par Pharmaceutical.  They are active in the Yacht club and enjoy their 60-foot Bayliner.  Hayley turned 21 this year.  She will be a sophomore at PLU this coming year.  Hunter will be 19 in August and has been accepted at USD where he will major in international marketing.  Hanna, 15, is in high school and excels in soccer in her school as well as being selected to an all-state team.

Bill, Nicole, and Giselle moved to San Diego, CA.  Bill is the Men?s Head Basketball coach for USD.  He was very successful in his first year as Head Coach winning the league championship against Gonzaga and going to the NCAA playoffs.  Giselle Marie was born March 4, 2006 and is the joy of their lives.  Nicole is enjoying being a stay-at-home mom.

Suzi and Jerry are in Lenoir City, TN.  Jerry has his own construction company and Suzi works for the University?s Professional Association for Human Resources.  She is also going back to school for another master?s degree and a trainer for marathon runners.

Husband:  Bob

Cecile and Bob live in Marcola in the woods.  They live at the Willamettans Nudist Park.  Most of their members are seniors.  Cecile and Bob have five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.  Cecile's mother will soon be ninety years old.  She feels truly blessed.  Cecile and Bob attend the Marcola Christian Church.  They are looking forward to their high school 50th reunion.

I was scanning through the 1957 Lion Tracks and discovered there are a number of classmates that we haven't included in our Class of 1958.  Maybe they didn't graduate with us.  Does anyone know where these people are and if they should be included in our "Clas of 1958" category?

Darold J. Klinge, born December 29, 1939, died March 3, 2006 in Portland, Multnomah County, OR.  As a child, Darold lived in Eugene, Cottage Grove, and Salem.  He served in the U. S. Navy from 1959 to 1961.  In 1967, he married Sharon; however, they divorced in 1991.  They lived in Salem where Darold worked for Boise Cascade paper mill.  In 1978, the family moved to Union, Oregon.  Darold and Sharon separated in 1986, when he moved to Portland.  In 1988, he moved to Eugene to attend dog grooming school.  Darold and Paul met in 1989 and they were together for 17 years until Darold's death.  They lived in Eugene until 1991 when they moved to Pacific City.  In 1996, they returned to Portland.

Darold enjoyed sculpture and landscaping.

He is survived by his life partner of 17 years, Paul S. Minty; daughters, Jonna Crow of Union, Stephanie Cochran of Dallas, and Tonya Brence of Shelton, WA; former wife of 24 years, Sharon of Unon; and five grandchildren.

Warren Richard Wright of Cottage Grove died December 2, 2003 of cirrhosis of the liver.

He was born to Merle and Grace (Inman) Wright, February 10, 1940, in Cottage Grove.  He graduated from Cottage Grove High School in 1958.

He lived in Cottage Grove all of his life, except for five years when he lived in California as a young man.

He served in the Army National Guard from 1958-1965.

He worked in concrete construction.

He enjoyed fishing, hunting, rock masonry work and puttering.

Survivors include his children, Tonya Wright of Kansas City, Missouri, Julie Murphy of Roseburg, Deena Gaiffin and Denise Stewart of Nekoosa, Wisconsin and Thad Wright; brothers, Merle Wright of Cottage Grove and Lloyd Wright of Independence; seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

(Carolyn) Sue Wolfard (Myers), of 32684 Taylor-Butte Road, died October 21, 1984 at the age of 44 from cancer.

Born in Kokomo, Indiana on February 20, 1940, she had lived in the Cottage Grove area since 1943.  She was married to Albert E. Meyers on June 15, 1958.

She is survived by her husband Albert (Duke); daughter, Deborah Sue Steele of Cottage Grove; son Kevin James Meyers of Cottage Grove; granddaughter, Tiffany Ann Steele of Cottage Grove; brothers Harold Wolfard, Jr. of Cottage Grove, Robert Wolfard of Veneta, Doyle Wolfard of Florence and Ron Wolfard of Wyoming; sisters, Pearl Lindsey of Vale, Beullah Stutzman of Portland, Ruth Sumpter of New Mexico, Glo DeLong of Cottage Grove and Joyce Cook of Alaska; numerous nieces and nephews.

One brother, Darrell Wolfard, preceded her in death.

Funeral services were held the afternoon of Tuesday, Oct. 23 at Smith-Lund-Mills Funeral Chapel with Pastor William Rench officiating.  Private interment was at the Taylor-Lane Cemetery.

Terry B. Van Nortwick of Tillamook, formerly of Cottage Grove, died Saturday at the age of 41.

Funeral services were held at Smith-Lund-Mills Funeral Chapel in Cottage Grove, with minister James Keefe officiating.  Interment will be at Lane Memorial Gardens in Eugene.

Van Nortwick was born November 2, 1940, in Cottage Grove.  He served in the Navy from 1958-61, and afterwards, worked for U. S. National Bank in Medford, Drain and Lakeview.  While in Lakeview, he went to work for Louisiana Pacific, then moved to Tillamook for three years before moving to Alaska for four years.  He returned to Tillamook for a year of retirement in 1981.  He died August 28, 1982 in Tillamook, Tillamook County, OR from heart problems.

Van Nortwick is survived by his wife, Eileen Van Nortwick of Tillamook; sons Wesley, Bruce and Brian, also of Tillamook; his mother, Arlyn Van Nortwick of Cottage Grove, and sister Sandy Martindale of Cottage Grove.  He was preceded in death by his father, Frank Van Nortwick.

Edward "Butch" J. Simpson died Thursday, June 13, 2002, in Springfield, Ore., from complications of diabetes and congestive heart failure. He was 62.
 
There was a celebration of his life on June 18, 2002, at Smith-Lund-Mills Funeral Chapel in Cottage Grove, Ore.

Mr. Simpson was born May 6, 1940, to William and Viola (Allen) Simpson in Cottage Grove. He attended Cottage Grove High School, and married Nellie J. Hepner in Cottage Grove on May 8, 1959.  He served in the National Guard from 1958 to 1964.  He lived in Soldotna, AK for 21 years and worked on the oil platforms in Cook Inlet, before moving to Springfield, OR.  He was a roustabout foreman and also was a truck driver for many years.

He enjoyed camping, spending time with family, fishing, hunting and working on cars. Mr. Simpson also was a member of the Moose Lodge in Cottage Grove and of the Elks Lodge in Kenai.

He was preceded in death by his father, William Simpson, and sister, Charlotte Paul.

Mr. Simpson is survived by his wife of 42 years, Nellie; his daughter and son-in-law, Cynthia and Paul Sugar of Juneau; two sons and their wives, Dan and wife, Kara Simpson of Soldotna and Darren and Leah Simpson of Santee, Calif.; mother, Viola Perry of Gresham, OR; stepmother, Margarette Simpson of Hudson, Fla.; brothers, Thomas Simpson of Prineville, Ore., Lester Simpson of Hood River, Ore., and Norville Perry of Gresham, Ore.; sisters, Pamela Stacey of Gresham and Beverly Hert of Hudson; and grandchildren, Tiana, Eric, Kate and Courtney Simpson.

Memorial contributions were to be made to the American Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 2680, North Canton, Ohio, 44720.

Arrangements were made by Smith-Lund-Mills Funeral Home in Cottage Grove.
