Richard Arlan Warren of Cottage Grove died Oct. 6, 2009 of complications from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. He was 79.
A private family service will be held.
He was born June 27, 1930, in Sacramento, California to Richard and Florence Hoover Warren.
He married Evangeline Thares on Feb. 19, 1953, in Seattle.
He graduated from Cottage Grove High School in 1948. He made his career with the U.S. Marine Corps, serving as a gunnery sergeant in the Korean War and the Vietnam War, earning two Purple Hearts.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Richard of Moorpark, Calif., and Ronn of Cottage Grove; a daughter, Rhen Pond of Springfield; two brothers, Robert E. Warren of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Rocke Warren of Tigard; a sister, Rhoda Bettis of Cottage Grove; and one grandson.
