Husband:  Terry (Nousen, who graduated CGHS in 1958)

Terry and Margaret have been enjoying each other?s company after several months of being apart.  Margaret had been in Las Vegas taking care of her granddaughter, Hannah, who is 10 years old.  Her mother was in Seattle taking care of personal business.  This was followed by both daughters (Gretchen and Greta) and their families relocating to Seattle.  Gretchen from Las Vegas and Greta from Ashland.  They live just 2 miles from each other and are committed to helping each other as they both are adjusting to balancing new jobs with their family responsibilities.  We helped them with the moving process and with settling into their new homes.  While Margaret was there, Greta gave birth to her third child, Lucy, Terry and Margaret?s fifth grandchild!  Elaine was thrilled to be able to help Greta and to get better acquainted with Lucy?s siblings, Liam, age 4 and Lily, age 2.  They had many trips to nearby parks, read lots of books, acted out favorite stories including Grandma?s encounter with a big bear in the woods behind their house, and of course, played hide and go seek?  Hannah, age 20, joined a softball team so they all offered lots of support and encouragement with batting, catching and throwing.

Meanwhile, back at their abode in Yoncalla, Terry was building fences, mowing grass, fixing the tractor and their vehicles and cleaning out the barn and garage.  An ongoing saga that may last their lifetimes!  In addition to all those outdoor manly chores, he was also doing all the household tasks that the little lady of the house normally does.  So, needless to say, he was glad to have Margaret back.

The first thing they did after her return was to go to their oldest granddaughter?s tennis match in Corvallis.  Libby and her partner played against 2 girls who defeated them last year.  It was an intense, closely matched game.  This time, Libby and her partner won!  Sweet!  This fall, she will be going to the University of Portland, She aspires to be a doctor and make lots of money!

Son, Andy, outdid himself with challenges and adventure this year.  After running a marathon last fall, he decided to see what else he could accomplish before he gets too elderly.  In February, he did the Great Nordeen, a 37k skater-ski race in April, re ran the Eugene half-marathon.  In May, Andy competed in the Bent Pole Pedal Paddle.  The PPP is a six-leg race beginning at Mt. Bachelor with a downhill ski race, a 7k skate ski race, followed by a 22-mile bike ride into Bend, then a 10k run, a mile-and-a-half paddle up and down the Deschutes, finishing with a 300m sprint to the finish line.  Many people do this race as part of a team.  With his wife, Karen and his daughter, Libby and her boyfriend, Harry as his support crew, he finished all six legs in a respectable 2 hours, 39 minutes.  Andy crewed for a week in the Thistle nationals, then, still yearning for more, he fulfilled a lifelong dream by sailing across the Pacific on a 39-foot sailboat with a friend and two other crew members.  They were all relieved he survived his 45th year!

As you can see, Terry and Margaret live vicariously through their kids and grandkids!  Their humble pursuit this year will be to walk, hike, exercise and work on their garden.  Also, hopefully, some camping and a little biking and kayaking.  They are looking forward to the 50th class reunion and Old Schoolmates dinner and induction.
